Please follow these steps to show extensions:
File Extensions - Hide or Show
Then tell us what the file extension is on the item that you downloaded/saved.

You have a file named something.vista?

Shouldn't the file be named something.exe?

Hi keviny6, if you open FF, click 'Help' then About firefox, it will get updated.

just go the download page and click on the download button. You'll get a .exe file, double click on the file and follow the on screen instructions

I took that to mean that Firefox is no longer on the laptop...
    ...that Firefox had been uninstalled.
    Let's hope...
    ...that it is still there
...that the OP can find/start it
...and that it will update as you indicated.

If not, then I suggest that the OP get Firefox from here:
    Download Firefox 27.0 - FileHippo.com
    firefox-ff1.png

If the download does not start...
    ...click on the download arrow.
    firefox-ff2.png

If you do see the Run/Save/Cancel box...
...then click on the triangle beside the Save option
    ...select Save as

...and save the file to your desktop.

Try running the installation from there.

Were you able to get it installed?

I just noticed that there is a 27.0.1:
    Download Firefox 27.0.1 - FileHippo.com

But Firefox should update itself to that version.
