    IE 11 not opening correctly

I have Windows 7 Premium, Internet Explorer 11.
I had to download Google chrome through Google earth to be able to join forum. When I click on i.e. icon a blank internet explorer screen comes up with no information showing. If I click on favorites, and select a site nothing happens. When I select tools only options available are compatibility, file and safety. I am unable to successfully restore to any point. I have done a WebRoot virus scan showing no problems. I tried msconfig disabling all save MS to no effect. Is there anything I can do short of re-installing Windows.
    Thank you.

I believe this is because IE 11 was really designed for windows 8 and its tiled layout; which is probably the reason it wont open correctly. To fix this you may have to use the windows 7 disc if you have one available; and use that to do a system repair by starting windows via the disc.

    Welcome to the Seven Forums.

That was brilliant! It is always good to keep more than one browser on a system in case one barfs.

IE11 should work on W7, but a few things like gadgets and favorite bar shortcut order can get messed up. Some users have had issues accessing local devices like routers and NAS boxes. But IE11's security enhancements make it worth having.

I'm not suggesting/advocating/encouraging a repair install for this issue...
...but I wanted to post to state where you can download installation disks:
Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create
(See the link in the note box above step one.)
I would grab a copy of X17-59463 and X17-59465 while you can.

I see that ThrashZone has posted while I was composing this post.

If those steps don't work, I would suggest reverting to IE10:
    Internet Explorer 9 - Uninstall
(The steps are the same to go from IE11 to IE10.)

    Then run the SURT...
What is the System Update Readiness Tool?
...before attempting to move up to IE11 again. That tool can appear to freeze. Let it run overnight - if need be.

    Thank you's

Nothing I do is brilliant, it was not pre-installed before the disaster however I was able to download Chrome through Google Earth.
Anyway, I have taken the advice received here and am back in business. Thanks to all for the speedy and helpful replies.

Even after the fact, it is still good thinking to get Chrome via Google Earth. I'm not sure that I would have thought of that.

You can mark the thread as solved. You might want to mention which step fixed the issue so that others that read this thread later will know what to try first.

    IE 11 not opening solved

I followed the suggested vid on uninstalling through the Updates menu which worked a treat. I had previously tried uninstalling other ways and also downloading a different version, none of which worked.
Of course my Restore feature also failed at that time as well, so I was delighted with the prompt help I received from the forum members.

    Cheers to all

Thanks for the details. I was hoping that resetting IE11 would have done the trick.
