    Various Problems with IE 11

I installed IE 11 a while back, but You Tube kept pausing, so I uninstalled. I read that the problem was corrected, so I reinstalled, yes the problem is gone. Now a few weeks into 11, a new problem. When I have several windows open and sometimes, but rarely, a single window, when I close it freezes. I have to use task manager to close. Anyone else have this problem and did you solve it. If you have just general comments about 11, it would be welcome here. Thanks

One can arrange Favorites Bar items, but that arrangement might not hold after you restart IE11.

Shortcuts with the URL file extension can be arranged (sorted/ordered) as desired via drag/drop - but these "URL shortcuts" can only be arranged with respect to other "URL shortcuts".

Shortcuts with the LNK or WEBSITE file extension will be listed to the right of "URL shortcuts".

Files (e.g. notepad.exe) will also be listed to the right of "URL shortcuts".

All non "URL shortcuts" will be sorted alphabetically :-(

This does not happen with IE10.

    Thanks
I went as far as checking how long support will last with IE10, I found out that the policy is that it is the same as support for Windows 7. I checked it out because I am staying put with 10. I never thought of using another browser, but that option is beginning to look attractive.

    Hi Rich,
You might think it odd but you should try this,
First if you haven't right click the video and settings,
Yellow folder section and confirm where the slider is located,
    More storage might help ?

One of the biggest issues with most versions of internet explorer is top favorites section in delete browser history,
It's of course checked by default but it's better to uncheck it and delete what ever the section retains,
Uncheck all other items if you wish to save the other information,
I personally delete it on exiting = it might make the world of deference
    Cheers.

Thanks Mike, but, I posted, as you were posting your message, I may just use another browser. I think that MS better get their act together.

    I never had that issue
All favorites bar items stuck where ever I put them,
Although dragging open tabs positions did seem to make it to the favorites bar without actually putting them there = still not mouse compatible I suppose,
Most of my mouse issues were resolved with the last version release or the current until 3/11 that is which there will be a new version released along with ie10-9.
    Cheers.

Can you tell me what the items are on your favorites bar?
    .URL?
    .WEBSITE?
    .LNK?

I can drag them into this position...

...but after restarting IE11, they look like this:

I was warned about this by other members of this forum - so I did not move to IE11 on those computers that use IE's favorite bar a lot.

Well I got rid of ie11 and stuck with ie10,
But I had a gmail email/ couple of sevenforums the tutorial big list,
    Windows 7 - Tutorial Index
    And my profile,
One for my answers forum profile and one to NineForums profile,
Pretty much in that order, but have been dragged around but only once,
I've deleted quite a few that accidently get added by moving the browser tabs down instead of straight across,

Okay the reason for rolling back to ie10 is an interesting one
    Which is still occurring actually
Hyperlink to original file - Microsoft Community
Can't wait for the response their usually of No help,
Most likely a severed functionality between word and Onedrive,
I noticed they have all of the office listings included in the menus ?
    Attachment 309346
No telling what's going on but I'll bet it's by design,
If I hyperlink to a original file using the forums it works,
Might try to paste the created hyper text link in word to see if it works instead of asking me to download the !@#$%^& file again :)
Darn thing seems to work now ?
    download instructions

It does not matter what website you have in a shortcut, what matters is the file extension of each shortcut. If all of those items had a URL file extension, then yes, the drag/drop order sticks.

As far as I can tell:
Dragging a URL from the address field to the favorites bar creates a shortcut with the URL file extension. Dragging a URL from the address field to the desktop creates a pinned shortcut that has a file extension of WEBSITE. Drag/drop that WEBSITE onto IE11's favorites bar and it will not sort correctly after restarting IE11.

There is not much reason to use shortcuts with the WEBSITE file extension on the favorites bar. I included them because they don't sort correctly. What I do miss, is the ability to place a shortcut with the LNK file extension where I want it on the favorites bar. I have AutoIt scripts that I launch dozens of times each workday. These scripts interact with IE. I place a regular "LNK shortcut" right on the favorites bar. To MS/IE's credit: there is no other browser that I know of that can have "LNK shortcuts" as bookmarks/favorites. Also, those "LNK shortcuts" retain their full context menu. I can right click on one of those AutoIt script shortcuts and get the same context menu that I would get if I was right clicking from within the Windows (file) Explorer. Try that Firefox

If you ever venture back into the IE11 realm, please test the sorting. If you find that it works for you, then there are lots of IE11 users that would like to know how you managed that

I've not seen an explanation as to why this sort order had to change. Some have speculated that it relates to W8 or that it was just an error. There does not seem to be a forum/blog/website where users like myself can get such questions answered :-(

Okay I see now I always just use Alt+AB then drag it where I want it to be
I might do ie11 again after the new release 3/11 now that I know my other issue stayed with ie10,
    Cheers.
