Had IE8 now Win Update tried to Install IE11 and doesn't work.

Hello to all the Forum helpers here. I have a problem with Windows Update trying to install IE11. When I built the comp I had IE8 installed. Apparently Windows Update has tried to install IE11. I don't usually use IE for browsing, since it is usually slower and a clunker, so I didn't give much thought when it "Updated" and didn't know it was trying to update IE from 8 to 11. As I have been searching this issue, apparently, I didn't uncheck the "Automatically Update to newer version of Internet Explorer" in help/about. Apparently it was coming through updates as "Important Updates"? to automatically download & install? I would like to have IE working again as some websites do not work properly without it. Have had serious issues with IE in the distant past when running 98se. I'm new to this forum and haven't used mspaint in years to try and post screenshots. Please be patient with my responses. Thank you.

Hi ThrashZone, thank you for your response to my post.

Went into Control Panel (icon view)>Windows Update>Change Settings, set Important Updates to 'Check for Updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them' Recommended updates box is checked, Who can install updates box unchecked, Microsoft Update box is checked, Software notifications box is checked, and clicked OK to apply. I had previously 'hidden' the Internet Explorer Update after it continuously failed to install.

Went into Control Panel (icon view)>Programs and Features>View installed updates> I could not find any reference to Internet Explorer 11 in the lists. Opened the Windows Features pane and found Internet Explorer 8 with box unchecked. There was no reference to Internet Explorer 11 in the pane.

    I then looked in Windows7 (C:>Program Files>Internet Explorer>iexplore.exe> Properties>Details>File version=11.0.9600.16428

Should I run the uninstall code in Elevated Command Prompt? I just wanted to get your expertise and help before I went any further. Thank You

Hi sisrace, thank you for your response. I have tried to uninstall IE 11, unfortunately I could not find it listed in 'View installed updates'.
Hopefully I can get this resolved with the help of the good people here.
I really don't want to reload the OS if I don't have to.

Hi sisrace, no, I cannot see any reference to IE in Installed Updates.

I finally figured out mspaint, since I haven't used it in years. Now if only I can attach them here.

Hi thanks for the additional information,
You would want to Uncheck Give me Recommended updates the same as Important ones,
Recommended updates tend to vary and should be reviewed first before downloading and installed,
For the most part they are Optional updates that usually cause more issues because they want to load at the same time as Important updates.

In turn windows features On or Off you would want to Check the box for ie8,
Unchecking any listed Internet explorer listing would Hide that feature no matter which version is loaded,

After turning ie8 back On Shut your machine down and review the windows update list again,
    Restore the Hidden ie11,

    Cheers.

Hi ThrashZone, thank you for the help. Just have some questions.

Unchecked ' Give me Recommended updates the same as Important ones '

Then went into Control Panel>Programs and Features> to turn on IE8, however after I checked the box and hit OK, it closed, exited Control Panel>re-entered Control to see if it was still turned on and? no it was not. any issues here?

Sorry if the screenshots aren't in order, and trying to not be a pain, but I don't know what I'm doing with this windows update in win7. I know it's a dumb question, but should I still 'unhide' the IE11? as IE8 doesn't want to stay turned on?

Also, just a little leary when shutting down as this windows update wants to install updates even when I try to de-select, then re-open the Update and they are already selected to install? Any help and knowledge is greatly appreciated.
