Hover over - how to disable?

I usually have 5 instances of Firefox going at the same time, and when I accidentally move the mouse into the menu bar, it pops up with the titles of all the instances. I'd like to disable that, because it's just annoying and I already know what's there. How do I do that?

thanks

For example, on the desktop, I used to be able to create a new folder by right clicking, then hover over NEW and it would be selected. Now if I hover over NEW, I need to click it to select it....
