This is just my input and I have not read all of the posts, but have you tried installing Firefox?
Mozilla Firefox Web Browser ? Download Firefox in your language ? Mozilla
I have Google Chrome as well (as a back-up browser), and there is no problem with that browser.
I just happen to like the IE and I am concerned why this problem exist and if it could affect other programs later on.

Suggestion: Access your IE from the Start button.
    Right click on IE
    Click on Properites
    Click on Previous tab
Give it time to retrieve the previous versions
Click on one of these and hopefully it will function like a mini system restore.

    Hi,
    Go back to Manage add-on,
This time go to the Search providers section and see what is listed,
    Cheers.

The help links look a bit complicated to me, is that not the same as doing a complete restore from within this PC?
I do not have any repair cd's with this PC.
Can I create a restore point several months back?

It shows that no previous versions are available.

Since Chrome works, I suspect the issue is only with the IE program. Again, I have not read through the thread history. Have you tried this... How to repair or reinstall Internet Explorer in Windows

I did install IE 11 to see if that would fix the problem, but it did not. I now have reverted back to IE 10.

No, I did re download the IE 10, deleted the old IE 10 which it reverted to the original IE 9. While using that one, I could not even enter my user name in the forum, it went right away to "IE stopped working". I am now in the process of trying IE 11 again. This post is sent from our other PC.
