Try to reset internet explorer via this tutorial:

    Internet Explorer - Reset

This should resolve the issue. Make sure to check the box to clear all personalized settings as well.

It occurred to me that I never tweaked settings in my administrator account...it is all in default setting. Not surprisingly, the icons are there while missing in standard user account.

Thing is, Internet option settings are identical in both accounts. Same with Ccleaner setting. I'm stumped.

I'm not going to reset...too much hassle, too many usernames and passwords to type all over again. I'll live with this glitch.

When does ccleaner delete everything ?

I wouldn't be surprised if ie was having issues looking for files that ccleaner deleted already,
It's really better if you let ie delete what ever you want deleted on exit,
Internet options/ General/ Check the box to delete on exit.
This is where the top box comes into play in delete browser history/ Uncheck it.
Good luck turn off ccleaner and test,
    Cheers.

Everytime I visit the webpage did not work either.

I just found out that this disappearing act happens only in Standard user account; does not happen in Administrator account of IE and Standard account of FF. That means it is not IE per se but some tweaking I had done in Standard user account that is causing the problem.

So now I have to hunt which setting in Standard account differs from the Administrator's. Worse comes to worst, I would go ahead and set IE to default setting in Standard account which I'd really not do. It would be like re-setting a dozen quartz watches(with forgotten different ways of how-to instruction) for daylight saving time switch.

Could be a corrupt standard user account. Create a new standard user account and see if the issue persists.

Hmmm....it seems the culprit is Ccleaner because right after running it in both Standard and admin accounts the disappearing act recurred...but only in Standard user account.

Odd, because both these user accounts have identical Ccleaner setting---all defaults.

Odder still, after running Internet option History Browsing deletion in standard account where icon is missing, icons reappeared.

Sorry, but creating another standard account seems too drastic a measure for such a minor glitch. I'd really rather just keep on hunting. Somehow it has become an amusing challenge.

The biggest challenging puzzle I am eager to solve is what is it about Browsing History deletion that makes the missing icons re-appear.

    Hi,
    Interesting finding about ccleaner,
I would turn it off in the standard account I believe it would be redundant there any way ?
    Cheers.

It's the standard account that has the most files removed by CCleaner, sometimes as much as IGB.

To be clear, running CCleaner as an Administrator does not result in icons' disappearance. But running CCleaner as non-administrator makes icon disappear, but only in Standard user browser. Really puzzling because CCleaner in both accounts has identical setting.

This the CCleaner setting whether run as Standard or as Administrator. (Yes, in Standard user browser, I can run CCleaner both Standard(just click) or as Administrator(right click and opt for run as administrator).

Sorry I'm not sure how to respond,
Andrew uses ccleaner religiously so he's going to be the go to man on that program,
I live a simple sheltered life and use this manually :)
    Temp files delete,
Run this as administrator and Start the scanner,
Shut your machine down after it finishes,

This made me think they no longer wanted help. Creating a new standard user account takes 8 clicks. Max.

I don't mind helping at all, but I would like to see if that did resolve the issue. Meanwhile I use ccleaner across multiple profiles and do not have a issue.

That is an excellent idea. :)
