Windows Live Mail unable to open attachments-Do Not Like Solution

I am unable to open attachments in Windows Live Mail normally. If I set WLM program properties to "run as an administrator", them attachments open (after a warning prompt) perfectly. When not set, I do not even get the warning prompt - nothing happens at all.

I do not like running WLM as an administrator, just in case I get something bad in the mail. I've tried most solutions for similar problems, and found none to resolve this problem.

    Any Ideas or pointers?

I have a similar problem for word. I can not click on a .doc file and get it to open word, unless word is also programmed to "run as an administrator" Problems are probably related, but the email is more important.
    Thank you ion advance.

Hello Tas, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

If you like, you should be able to save the attachments to your desktop first, then be able to open them from your desktop.

Thanks, extracting to disk works fine, but is terribly inconvenient. I'd prefer to get it back to working the way it used to.

Additionally, a doc file on the desktop can not be clicked on to open, unless word is set to run as administrator. Has nothing to do with windows live mail, but the symptoms and solution (that I do not like) are similar.

    Solved both problems. Easy solution.

For all office 2007 programs and windows live mail ....
Setting the program compatibility property to XP Service Pack 3 made everything start working.
