Why no pictures in my email?

Most emails I get via Thunderbird has nothing but an empty box where the picture should be. (see attached) I say Thunderbird because thats all I have. Other people with Thunderbird do get the picture. Have asked Mozilla for help and it appears to them that the problem is not in Thunderbird.
That leaves my computer. Can anybody tell me what to look for?

Below is some excerpts from Belarc Adviser that may help.

It's a security feature. If you want to over-ride it choose "show remote content"

Also if the domain hosting the image is blocked in your hosts file or security software - the image won't display.

If pictures are supposed to show but don't. I do "show remote content". They show then, sometimes.
The domains are NOT blocked as far as I can tell.

    Thunderbird images

Is it all images in all emails or just some images?

Also is it possible to bypass Thunderbird and sign into your email account via your browser and view images that way?
