I recently started having a problem with internet explorer

So I've had firefox for awhile now and IE recently started randomly opening by itself. any idea why this is happening and how to fix the problem? I have AVG by the way and I've scanned the computer and theres no viruses so I'm lost.

Did you select IE as the default browser?

Even if you did not, make sure that it is not the default.

Follow procedure to make Firefox default browser
After you follow procedure, see if problem persists
If it does one answer, can be seen in this article. Some websites open
IE, even if not the default.

I think it's important to ask: What webpage comes up when IE starts? I have a game launcher that shows news about my game, and when I click to view a specific article, it opens IE (my default is Chrome). The page that comes up may be a clue to what is opening the browser.

Random sites that I have never hear of load up when IE pops up. I think they might even be ads?
