It looks like adding a Contact is not supported in Basic HTML view

    Basic HTML view

Basic HTML view is what you’ll see when you sign in to Gmail using a browser that is not supported. For a preview, see basic HTML view. This view is compatible with almost any browser but does not support the following features:

    • Chat
    • Spell checker
    • Keyboard shortcuts
    • Adding or importing contacts
    • Custom 'From:' addresses
    • Rich formatting

If you need to access these features, please sign in to Gmail from a supported browser, and make sure you have cookies and JavaScript enabled.

    Hello DavidE,

I reckon that settles it. Many thanks for digging up this information. I posted this question in gmail forum too but there was only a loud silence from them!

    Kind regards,

    Hi Melita,

    You're welcome for the info.
If you can switch to Standard view there are some setting changes you could try.
Maybe Standard view would work ok with dialup ...
    1) Disable Displaying External Images
    2) Set the Maximum page size to 10 for Conversations per page and the min for Contacts per page

If that doesn't help, can you take the laptop somewhere and connect with hi-speed internet.
You could then periodically switch to Standard temporarily and add any new contacts.

Thank you again for all this help. It is really for a friend that I made this inquiry. I am helping out because she has a slow connection and English is her second language. She'll be glad to have this new information and of course she can come to my place and access 'Standard view', as you suggest. I have ADSL Broadband.

Your detailed help is greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards,
      My Computer
