    IE 11 Not Working, System File Checker errors. How do I fix?


    Internet Explorer stopped working last night and I have no clue why. How do I fix the errors I get in the system file checker?

    Here's the errors I get:

    Copy the entire CBS.log into a compressed folder (zip) and post the zip folder.

    The errors you posted are language pack related - you'll see them on a good install of IE - don't worry about those errors.

    The bottom of the report says 2014-12-13 12:28:37, Info CSI 00000326 [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired, so the issue lies somewhere else.

    The transition from IE 9 to IE 10 and then to IE 11 was laced with issues.
    If you want to roll back - all the way back to IE8, then run Windows Update to bring IE up to IE 11, that's one way to get past the transition issues. MS has 'corrected' some of the in between stuff.

    The trick is to do an orderly update applying all IE updates for each version before installing the next version. A recent thread shows that IE 9 wasn't offered, but IE 10 was

    If you want to experiemtn, see if IE 11 is offered imiediately after you roll back to IE 8 and apply that update - no guarantees from me on that though. Technically, it should work.

    What I know works is a bit cumbersome, but not too bad.
    Turn off Automatic updates for this process
    Change it to Check, but let me decide

    Roll IE back (uninstall) until there's nothing left to uninstall
    you might have to go into installed updates to get all the way back, I forget.

    Restart the machine and run SFC /scannow

    Manually check for updates, hide (right click) any IE 9, IE 10, and IE11 offers
    apply all updates, restart if necessary

    repeat that process until no IE updates are offered, then unhide the next highest IE (IE 9 for instance - but I don't think WU offers it)

    eventually IE 11 will be the only thing offered - bring it up-to-date using WU

    then reset your WU to automatic

    Simply put, you only want to update one IE version at a time until it is completely up to date,
    then you want to completely update the next version, one version at a time

    This type of issue is rare and troubling to repair, but there's always a way to repair them. Inconvenient sure - yet every machine has these issues.
