Importing Outlook Express contacts to Windows Live Mail

    Hi,

I've read the other threads regarding my problem, but still can't figure out what to do. I backed up my files before installing Windows 7, and have an "Outlook Express" folder. However, I can't figure out how to import the contacts I had saved in my address book in Outlook. The Outlook files are in .dbx format, so I am unable to open them.

Does anyone know how I can even access the files so I can see my contacts and copy them down? Importing them would be ideal, but I'll take whatever I can get.

    Thanks!

Here is the results of a google search, 33 million hits:

    - Google Search

I took a a brief look at the first listing. It might help you?

You might also try running a google search for "convert dbx" for an app that can convert dbx files to eml or another format.

I've been looking on Google for the past hour and a half and still haven't really figured out a way.

Even if I can install Outlook again, it would help, so I uninstalled IE 8 and tried to get IE6 but its not working. HELP!

The address book file has an extension of WAB. Does your backup of Outlook Express contain anything with that extension?

The demo version of the above tool will allow you to retrieve 15 contacts; there many similar tools available. I imagine some of them are available at no charge. This particular program is not free, other than for the demo version.

Yes. I click on that and it imports the addresses but it is not the addresses from my Address Book on OE. It imports old msn messenger contacts, and I don't even know what else. They are e-mail addresses from 8 years ago.

For some reason the Address Book Recovery file does not open WAB files, only .pst or .ost I'll try to find another similar program.
    Thanks

    I see many such products.

    Here is another:

Can you open the WAB file in an ordinary text editor such as notepad or wordpad?

There might be some legible info in it if you can.

Don't give up on the WAB recovery tools. This is a very common issue.

Outlook Express keeps its contacts in a file with .wab extension. You can open that file with Notepad or export the contacts as a .csv (comma separated value) file. The mail messages are stored in .dbx files and the contents can be exported as eml files using DBxtract or DBxpress from this site: OEHelp
