Hello LonePalm,
Welcome to 7 Forums.
Control Panel (icons view) > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on/off > Uncheck IE8. Windows Features - Turn On or Off
Hope this helps.
Gary

Oddly enough, if you remove IE8 this way, and have Google Chrome onboard and subsequently uninstall Google Chrome you'll find you are faced with an IE8 page which asks you why you decided to uninstall Google Chrome!!!
Microsofts 'remove IE8' option is therefore nothing but a farce, the executables are still there are can still be run - all it does is removes the shortcuts to the program, it does not actually remove the Microsoft browser from your system as is implied...

I think that kept the lawsuits at bay...

It might be possible to take ownership of the IE program folder and delete it - but I'm not absolutely certain this wouldn't upset Windows Explorer functionality as IE used to provide much of the HTML functionality in the Windows Shell and WMP in the past.
You can certainly block it at firewall level and try altering the permissions that apply to it's executables, but since it doesn't run as a service it's not clear under Windows Seven quite what else may depend upon it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom built machine OS W7 x64 CPU Intel Q9300 2.5Ghz Quad LGA775 (Would like Q9650) Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3R (F6 Bios) Memory 4Gb OCZ Gold 1,333Mhz Graphics Card Palit HD4850 O/C Sonic 512Mb DDR3, Dual DViD's Sound Card Azalia to twin Samson 50w Studio Monitors Monitor(s) Displays Twin Dell (E-IPS) U2311H 23.6" Screens Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz Keyboard Cherry PS/2 custom model Mouse Lenovo USB laser "Thinkpad" Mouse PSU OCZ 600w Case Lian-Li PC8 acoustifoamed' aluminium tower Cooling Scythe 140mm Zipang Hard Drives Crucial M4 SSD, archives on twin Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX, 2TB, 7200rpm HDD's, Samsung Ritemaster CD/DVD Burner... I did not uninstall it, but I removed it from all accessible means.
The only way to start it now is by clicking on the .exe file itself.

@Qdos, it does in fact remove IE from the computer. What it doesn't remove is the components that are dependent on like the HTML rendering engine Trident or DLLs that are used for core shell systems. But the IE shell and browser is removed. A lot of other applications make use of the libraries provided by IE. DO NOT delete anything concerning IE, use the prescribed means of uninstalling it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Alienware Aurora ALX R4 OS Windows 7 x64 (SP1) CPU Intel Core i7-3930K (3.2GHz, Turbo 4GHz) Motherboard Alienware Aurora-R4 x79 Memory 4x Samsung 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (16GB 1600MHz) Graphics Card Nvidia Geforce GTX 690 (Stock) Sound Card RealTek Integrated Audio Monitor(s) Displays Dell UltraSharp U3011 Screen Resolution 2560x1600 Other Info Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz; 1GB; Windows 7 Ultimate) |
