Turn on your speakers. :)
I don't know why your not getting a sound now unless the email handler you're using now doesn't provide it. Windows Live Mail will notify you when an email arrives if you have the speakers on. You can put multiple accounts into WLM and it will check any or none of them, if that's what you want.
My speakers are always fully on. As I said, it would seem that you need to stay logged into Windows Live Mail to activate the email notification and I am not comfortable with this idea...feels to be not secure leaving my email account constantly open even though it is a duplicate and my hotmail account still says not logged in. If that is the only way to receive a notification, i.e. to leave an account open, then I am not interested.
I check my Hotmail for mail manually every few days through WLM since I only use it for MS stuff. To do that, you just click on the name in the header. The Wireweb accounts (via my ISP) get checked every 10 minutes but you can change the frequency. When a new email arrives for any of the accounts, I get the sound notification. And you can change the Windows Sound to be anything you want.
If you only run your mail handler when you want to check mail, why do you need a notification? You're there!
Mine runs the whole time on the PC but gets covered up or minimized to the task bar. I then get notice of a new email.
