Why has IE 8 got these stupid Shortcut Icon designs for windows shortcuts. And why does it do away with the attractive shortcut company logo Icons and replace them with a boring and uninspiriing globe map icons?

Hello Reg,
If you are referring to internet shortcuts, you could use a icon of your own instead.
Internet Shortcut - Vista Forums
Hope this helps,
Shawn
Thank you Shawn. My question was why are the Company Logo Shortcuts that appear when you place a company shortcut on your desktop are then replaced by this Globe shortcut. Something in the IE software that does this.
Thank you for your e-mail response

I'm not 100% on what type of shortcut this it was created from. Could you post a screenshot of this icon, and what does the icon open?
Sorry Brink, I deleted them as I changed icons to the standard E Icon. This is an example of what happened. I Googled NationWide, in the Nationwide window I created a shortcut to my Desktop. It appeared with the Nationwide Logo. A couple of days later I booted up and found that the Icon with the Nationwide Logo, and a few others of different companies, had been changed to a Logo with a world globe.

You might see if rebuilding the icon index may help, but creating your own internet shortcuts with a custom icon for this should work if they will not return to the company icon.
Thank you Brink. It's no big deal. I just wondered why Microsoft would do that to Company Icons. If you now go to a Microsoft address and create a Shortcut, like the one for this Forum, you get a nasty little Icon...it might as well be just a white square!!!
I have again created a shortcut for Nationwide, a British Company. It has appeared with the Company Logo. I'll see how long that lasts.

Brink this is the Shortcut Icon that I was talking about. It's the one that replaced the company Logo's....Reg
Yeah, that is the default internet shorcut now in Windows 7. Vista used the Internet Explorer "e" icon instead.
Experiment with having the icon at different sizes to see if that may be it. Sometimes rebuilding the index, or loading that webpage may help.
The icon used for this is a favicon stored in the "Temporary Internet Files". To view them, open IE8, click on Tools, Internet Options, General tab, Settings for "Browsing history", and View files button. This hidden folder is located at C:\Users\User-Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files.
