IE 11 refuses to go out of x86 folder
Hi,
I have a laptop with Windows 7. It came with IE11 installed. As normal behaviour, I had the IE in 2 folders,
the 64-bit "C:\Program Files" and the 32-bit "C:\Program Files (x86)".
Our client web pages were compatible only with IE8. So I went ahead and started removing the updates from View Installed Updates and reached till IE8.
But then I saw that the folder in 64 bit had changed to IE8.
But the application in x86 folder still remained IE11. And to add to it, some files were removed from the x86 folder, while some remained.
Now whenever I open the 64-bit IE8, it flashes and disappears.
I have already tried
- Re-installing IE8 through Turn Windows Features On and Off
- Re-installing IE11 again
- Running sfc /scannow
But the files in the x86 remain as it is and I am unable to open IE at all. I desperately need IE as many of my client web pages does not work on firefox or chrome.
Any ideas other than formatting my system.
Thanks,
Sarath
