Browser Choice? (UK)

ok, i bought a retail version of 7 pro, i thought that you were meant to get a choice of brower when you installed win 7 (i did a clean install) due to some EU law.

i never, it installed IE8 without any input from me (i did leave the installation for a wee bit so it maybe went to default browser)

has anybody else had or seen this?

I think the original plan, as of say a year ago, was to issue the Euro versions without a browser, but I think I recall where that plan was discarded in the last few months.

Does your copy bear any suffix, such as Windows 7E?

The WindowsE option was scrapped for the full install with IE and WMP... You are still free to use what ever you want.

It won't hurt anything to have IE8 installed...you don't have to use it unless you want. I have multiple browsers installed, but use Opera as my primary. There are some websites that have backward programming and you may need IE for those. I doubt that the security has improved much, but IE8 does have alot better performance than in the past.

i'd have picked IE anyway, but i thought the EU turn around was because MS was offering the installer the choice of which browser they wanted to install when installing the OS.
