How to Install or run Google Chrome without Updater
Peterson Tuners has now required that Chrome be used to access and transfer Tuner programs from their database to tuners such as the StroboPlus HD. Previously Peterson had their own program "Peterson Connect" that was used but they have abandoned that and forcing customers to use Chrome.
I had problems previously with Chrome and the forced install of the updater program. As it turned out the updater program was causing very high spikes in DPC Latency Checker and the Resplendence Latency Monitor was reporting "this computer seems to have trouble handling real time audio".
Prior to installing Chrome and the updater Latency was fine, as I use my PC for my recording studio. After installing Chrome and the updater I started having clicks and dropouts in my recording studio DAW programs (both Sonar and ProTools). As Chrome was last thing installed, I uninstalled Chrome but still had the problems. As it turned out the updater was the problem; I tried uninstalling it, deleting entries, etc but it kept coming back. I deleted the exe for the updater but it still came back. I finally manually edited the Registry and removed all Google references and finally was rid of the Updater. I ran DPC Latency Checker and it was back to normal with under 100 usec and Resplendence Latency Monitor reported the computer should have no problems running audio. The clicks and dropouts in the recording programs were gone.
Doing searches, I see references to a version that does not include the updater but the links just go to the general Google Chrome installer download site. I also saw a reference to a standalone version that could be run from a USB drive but the links for that go to the same general Chrome download site.
