    UPDATE

IE11 and IE10 crash and fail to recover when first opened - Microsoft Community

that link is where I got the script to run to get the dmp
that person was having the same problem and the dmp file showed what was conflicting with IE, I feel I am having the same problem

    I also

Delete the browsing history of Internet Explorer
I had also reverted back to the older IE
I also uninstalled security essentials and reinstalled it

I used malware bytes, adwcleaner, hitman pro all after running rkill to stop malicious processes ... the system shows as clean now and all report 0 infections.

no problems with any other browsers only IE

    thanks in advance again

Get Download Complete Internet Repair - MajorGeeks and run the appropriate bit version. Select only Repair Internet Explorer. See if it will correct.

Also try a clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

You can get a reg file that creates explorer crash dumps from the tutorial here on Seven Forums:

    Troubleshooting Explorer.exe Crashing Issues

    There's some other advice too.

If it's buggy software (shell extension) it can be tricky to pin down.

Anyway looking at your dump it points to a "memory access violation" but I can't pinpoint the cause. It doesn't point to any shell extension as the cause.

When does explorer crash? At random or when you click / right click on something and if so - what?

Forget that - you're taling about internet explorer - not explorer.exe! I can't help with that other than to suggest disabling any add ons or even resetting IE to default settings.

Do you have any other browser already installed?

If not, download it on another PC and carry with a USB stick.

Also, try in Safe Mode with Networking.

    sorry for confusion

did dload with chrome, then ran the tool and the IE browser still crashes when I try to dload anything ... that is what I meant to say

also, I did the clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup as suggested

same results on a clean startup which determined that there was no background services or programs causing the issue

    trying sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows now

hope this will do it, getting very frustrated

thanks for your suggestions and your replies

you don't need to run all those switches if you are running from within Windows.

    sfc /scannow will be enough

    Tried Safe Mode with Networking?
