did it from the recovery environment off win cd boot ... sfc /SCANNOW /OFFBOOTDIR=d:\ /OFFWINDIR=d:\windows ... no luck either

I had run it in windows a few times and show the json 'cannot repair' from update error ... that is not the cause of the ie problem, this was there before my current issue problem

Yes, that one is a false corruption warning due to a Windows Update.

Since you have not yet answered this question - did you try in Safe Mode with Networking yet?

reinstalling windows, thanks anyways, all looks good so far with the fresh install, just didn't want to have to go to this extreme

Hey, I know I haven't been able to help with the crashing but perhaps can advise you to start taking image backups of System reserved (if you have) and C partitions, so you can just restore from your backups in such cases.

Macrium free is a very good product which many over here use (I mainly use a paid product but also take occasional image backups with Macrium too). Imaging with free Macrium

Take backups as frequent depending on how much your OS changes. Keeping the last couple of images so in case you miss some problem in time, you will have an older one to fall back to.
