    IE 10 forgets all history

    Hi Everyone!

Real short question (then ask me for the details).

IE 10 running on my Windows Professional x64 system. (downgraded last year from IE11 upon advice from here).

    Now a mystery!

All my history has vanished! The lines and dates and weeks are "there" but are all null sets of data... nothing is being saved except the "new" history from the date of the loss (about a week ago).

I tried to solve it myself.... found a competiting web site here (Tom's Hardware) ::::
"Internet Explorer / Keeps Deleting My History"

    http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...h84Axz13HUNsXQ

I TRIED what they did ... same results Zero! Zip Nothing!

History works again, but any day, any moment now, I might lose all of it again..and I need to keep consulting older pages I don't need or want to have to bookmark every page I visit!

How to prevent this? (Did Virus Check/Malwarebytes too check all ok).

    Photo of it here:

Any more details? Just ask me!

Thanks for reading a short cry for help!

P.S. I'm trying to do my monthly backup save (first day of month) but..... I'm afriad I'll be saving whatever error is causing this History loss problem with the save of the entire HDD! So need to know before I do another Macrium / AEOMI Save (Great big thanks to everyone here who helped me learn about these and how to use them!!)

    Hi,
Open ie10 and use gear symbol on the top right and Manage add-ons,
    Toolbars and extensions section,
Then on the bottom left column switch to Show all add-ons and take some screen shots,

    Use Clean boot,
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Click Start and type in the search box,
    msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
    Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here,
    Cheers.

    A question already!

So how come this window does not have a "maximize" button? I seem to have so many (I did not ask for so many!!!) add ons, that I'd need over 10 screen shots to show it all... very limited view in the viewfinder in the window... any way to enlarge them?

Should I copy and paste them to a larger Word Pad page? Does that still show what you need to see?

    Thanks!

    Hi,
You can paste in a Paint image file instead of a document would better for us here to see them all,
Use Snipping tool instead of typical screen captures that way you can drag over a section with the rectangular selection tool option,
How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista

But yep that's why you should keep track of them and prevent a lot of freeloader add-ons

    First Step Done

Finally got it done! It was slow work but better than many little screen captures and copying and pasting those here!

I think its 5 Paint pictures to list them all:
I made comments right on the paint picture about the extensions and why I left most of them there when IE10 keeps asking me to "manage" extensions.....

Now I'll work on the clean boot and following the msconfig instructions above and do those screen shots (I've done those here before---so I know they fit in a few shots so I won't take as long learning how to use snippet tool)

    Thanks again!

    Hi,
Most likely cause is either Norton
Java from Oracle can most likely be uninstalled nobody needs the security hole ware.

    Was a short reply---got longer

    Hi ThrashZone!

Still working on the Clean boot information---had to wait until weekend to get enough time to do it without messing up those instructions.

Thanks for the opinion about Norton and Java...

I've used Norton "forever" and I know it causes problems, but again it does lots of virus checks and disk operations in background, not bothering me---and still with its green Safe Site notes, warns me about sites I should not click on, and virus checks all my downloads automatically (In case I forget to scan---which a lot of other programs you have to actively request the scan and they cost too).... So I'm sorta stuck with my Norton and troubles it causes... Don't they know about this too??

And Java....why is it so used everywhere by all the developers/coders on the internet? If I'm not up to date I get warnings that I can't view something because of Java is out of date or security certificate is missing on it or etc etc always difficult I know... But if I just get rid of it... what then? How will I see the little "feedback request" on sites that is rotating because it uses Java? etc etc?? How do others live without Java?

(I know its spoofed too--I only download updates from the original site and when my Java icon prompts me to update---there are too many places that pop up (despite my pop up blockers!) and say your Java or Adobe or Windows Viewer is out of date just "click" here and everything will be ok!) (I'm aware its all a fake!)

Thanks... Let me get you more information from the clean boot so we once and for all can fix this problem....

It is related I'm certain to my other consistent problem with IE (10 and 11) that those tool menus marked "Reopen last closed window" or "Reopen last browsing session" are grayed out on my menu all the time...They did work once, but never again! So lets concentrate and work on the History memory---I've stopped using IE 10 and am using other less useful browsers until we fix the problem as its really annoying when I lose so many sites that I've searched for and found and am working on them...

Thanks for reading what was to have been a short message....

Those Safe Site warnings are pretty useless.

Please uninstall Java and post a link to a website that gives you problems/warnings about Java. You can always install Java again if we find that it is really needed.

    > How do others live without Java?
I uninstalled Java many years ago. I also uninstalled it from the computers that I support. No users have asked for it back.
