I've got a problem, one that seems to have began ever since animated adds started appearing on certain websites. I'll be sat there reading the website and suddenly my Internet Explorer shows an error and has to reload (sometimes unsuccessfully). The worst, if not the offender I think is "AdChoices". Is there any way to get rid of this pest?

That said, I have seen a few threads where Yahoo was crashing IE11. Your "System Specs" are not very detailed. Are you using IE11? Are you using a 64bit OS? If 64bit OS, is EPM turned on?13) No ad blocking discussions. This site depends on ads to pay for the costs of running and maintaining it.
Follow on UNI suggestion. I've recently encountered issues with IE11 playing videos. Your problem may not be advertisements per se'.
I have been plagued by video provider sites that are blocked by IE11. In some cases, IE11 crashes or I get an error message to install Flash that is already installed. By putting these URLs in the trusted sites list, they play fine.
I am not sure why this has just started happening, but I suspect that IE11 is suddenly having security issues with certain video hosting sites. I am hoping someone here with more experience than me can pinpoint what is causing this problem. My workaround is to use the trusted site list, but I'm not so sure that is the best fix. Quite honestly, my fix is to use FireFox v41 for web browsing as that browser has no issues with the sites that IE11 does.

Yes, I have IE11. I don't necessarily mind the ads, although they can be a nuisance at times. I just hate what affect they're having by crashing my browser on a regular basis. It's only been happening over the last few months, ever since those ads have been appearing all over the Net.
It's not just "trusted websites", I'm even getting regular crashes on things like Skyrim Nexus. It's especially bad there. I've got Firefox, but I never really took to it like I did IE. All of my favourite websites are saved on IE. I normally only use Firefox if I really need to.
You can import IE's favorites into FF's bookmarks. I keep them synch'd so I can debug SWMBO's IE problems. I found that a familiar website can use a web site that causes IE to crash. A long time favorite of SWMBO's suddenly started causing problems with IE. Looking at the page source revealed that a video server service (Brightcove.com) was the culprit. I still don't know what is causing this, but I suspect is related to certificates, or malware that is being served up with the videos. My work around may not be the correct fix for the problem, but it works for us. I still hope someone that knows more than me will shed some light on this issue.

It is not exactly clear to me why the problem occurs and why you need to disable Active X filtering and add site to trusted list but i did find this old article about IE10 and it mentions brightcove:

Summary:
Brightcove is already on IE's compatibility view list.
If a website uses Brightcove video platform then it is up to the website owner to apply to have their website added to IE's compatibility view list.

In summary, developers control how their sites work in Windows 8 with Internet Explorer 10 in the new Windows UI.
For websites with Flash content, the site owner has the following options:
Detect that the request is coming from Internet Explorer 10 and serve a plug-in free version of your site.
Use the registry key described previously along with available documentation to make your Flash content compatible with Internet Explorer 10. After your Flash content is compatible with Internet Explorer 10, submit the site to Microsoft for evaluation and addition to the CV List for Flash.
Add META-tag/header in HTML to prompt the user to switch to Internet Explorer for the desktop to view your site with plug-ins enabled.
Do nothing—your site will display in Internet Explorer 10 without Flash. (In other words the site will display but video will not)
I realize that this article specifically mentions Windows 8 and IE 10 but I have a strong suspicion that it's the same problem that you see in your IE 11 on Windows 7.
I've been in contact with two sites that caused problems with IE11 and described the issues. I've gotten replies back and suddenly, those two sites work with IE11. Based on what you just posted and I agree with it, I'm more convinced that certificates are the key. If it is a missing, or invalid certificate, why isn't IE stating that, instead of just stopping working? Why does my work around work? Is it the right fix? I don't know, but SWMBO is happy and that's all that counts.
Well at least it seems to be working now. I'd suspect the website owners fixed something that wasn't right.
