    Windows 10 fail, windows 7 re-load, e-mail won't send

    Hi

I was suckered into the free windows 10 upgrade for my laptop. It failed utterly and have paid my local IT shop for the upgrade to be wiped and windows 7 re-loaded. (They advised don't try to upgrade again)

I have two e-mail accounts. Both worked perfectly before the failed upgrade. After the re-load - one works perfectly. The other will receive but not send. The error message is:-

    Server error: 554
Server response: 554 smtp service not available
    Server: smtp.hosts.co.uk
Windows Live Mail error ID: 0x800CCC6F
    Protocol: SMTP
    Port: 465
    Secure (SSL) Yes

After lengthy emails with website/e-mail provider the settings for incoming and outgoing are all correct but still won't send. We changed passwords, port settings, made unsecure etc

Back to my local IT shop. On their wifi it sends and receives no problem. Back home, try to send and it still fails.

ISP is Virgin Media. 30 min conversation with their tech man. He can't solve and says the problem is not at their end. It seems to me though that it probably is.

It's been going on now for 5 weeks. It's my business e-mail I can't send on I'm pretty fed up with the amount of wasted time/cost etc. Biggest mistake I made was to accept the free upgrade!

Anyone else had this and resolved the challenge?

    Thanks

Try this - change the SMTP port to 587.

Also, just set up the e-mail address on my wife's laptop and same issue. She's also running Windows 7 and WLM.

It perhaps is pointing back to the host server for the e-mail address?

Further update - at my suggestion our website/email provider has provided an alternate outgoing server. And we now have no problem sending e-mails!

    Presume there's some unfathomable conflict between smpt.hosts.co.uk/Virgin/Windows 7 re-load.

Anyway I think we're up and running again.
