Windows Live Mail to Windows Mail

    Hi,
I installed Windows 7 upgrade onto my Windows Vista and started using Windows Live Mail. There are certain characteristics of Windows Live Mail that I do not like and prefer to switch back to Windows Mail.
Would someone please help (pretty please) with a step by step procedure as to how I can do this?
    Thanks in anticipation,

I don't know of a way to get Windows mail other than installing Vista. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Looks like Jimbo has found a way to go the other way, maybe if you find a way to get Wndows Mail running, you could use his method to move.

If you have access to a Vista installation using Windows Mail, you can use it as follows:
    1. Copy the complete Windows Mail folder from the Program Files folder to a USB stick.
    2. On the Windows 7 machine, rename the Windows Mail folder to OldWindows Mail folder as done here: C:\Program Files\OLD Windows Mail
    3. Copy the Vista Windows Mail folder to your C:\Program File folder.
    4. Find winmail.exe and create a shortcut to it on the Desktop, then drag it to the Taskbar and "pin" it there.
    5. Click on the familiar mail icon in your Taskbar.

    Good luck.

Did you install Windows 7 32 or 64 bit, and is your Vista the same (32 or 64 bit)? I think it will make a difference.

Importing mail from Outlook to Windows Live Mail

    Hi there
that was a while ago -- since I now am a technet member I prefer OUTLOOK. (Can down load Offfice 2007 and now 2010 for nothing).

You can get Office very heavily discounted which include OUTLOOK (you need PRO or ENTERPRISE - not the student and teacher editions).

When the public beta of Office 2010 is available load that and run Outlook - it's not a bad e-mail client and running unsupported Windows Mail on W7 might give problems later on.

    Cheers
