    Can't delete echo123

    Hi Folks,
I use Win Live Mail 2012, in the 'Contacts' list I have echo123. I know all about it and what it does but can't delete it.
I have been on Skype's website, tried to contact support but there are too many questions that I can't answer.
I signed out of wlm and it vanished. I signed back in and it reappeared.
I have also tried re-installing Skype then used Revo uninstaller in Advanced mode, it failed.
I have also read my own pdf on how to access wlm contacts, it also failed.
Could having the same wlm settings on 2 computers be the cause????

Roderunner have you seen this thread? How do I remove echo123 skype email address from Windows Live email?

Scroll down to ˇFiredog's first reply, he suggests to sign-out of WLM but you've already tried that and know it doesn't work unless you stay signed-out.

His second suggestion; Breaking the link between skype and your Microsoft account helped the original poster [OP-RobertBlew]. At first the OP had problems and iFiredog reiterated some steps, but it seems that before the OP could wait for ˇFiredog's steps he, the OP rebooted his machine and it kept echo123 off the list.
I see you have two machines, what I would do is break the link on one and just shut it down until you break the link on the second machine, reboot the second, check the second WLM's contacts to see if echo123 is gone after signing back in to WLM, if it is check the first one after bringing it back.

    Make sure you close/sign-out everything properly before you shutdown the first and reboot the second;

Near the bottom of pg1 a few other posters have the same problem and it grows into a flame against skype on pg2, then near the bottom of pg3 iFiredog explains the connection. Microsoft bought Skype back on October 13th 2011 | google search

Echo123 is a skype service that is used to test if its sound is working okay, see this link:
       Note
Removed link because WOT gave a poor reputation based on user ratings
If you're having echo problems with skype, echo 123 is used as a troubleshooter.

Do you mean windows live messenger? If so that has been discontinued and is upsupported which might be the cause of your problem. I'm surprised that you can even sign in. Everything messaging for them has been moved to skype. Either way this is an issue with their server syncing which is beyond your control. You will have to work with their tech support.

townes, in Roderunner's first post he stated: "I use Win Live Mail 2012".

Roderunner; I would believe that yes, having both machines settings the same could cause this because microsoft/skype [Msky] is synchronizing all your devices that link to Msky.

I need to clarify; You tried breaking the link with skype on both machines and both failed, correct?

Did you see your microsoft account linked to skype as shown in the tutorial?

Did you see any microsoft accounts linked to skype?

As a test try unlinking any accounts that show on the skype accounts settings page.

Do you still have an open account with skype? Try: How do I close my Skype account?

Do you still have skype installed on either machine? Uninstall it from both.

Roderunner, I believe we're fighting a losing battle and you are going to have to either tolerate echo123 being in your contacts or you're going to have to uninstall WLM and switch to another email program.

The war involves the perceived notion that vendors have, that, users want synchronization between all their devices, so Msoft and skype went ahead and hard-coded echo123 into skype, townsbg was correct:
this is an issue with their server syncing which is beyond your control
You might be able to remove echo123 but you're going to have to find out and delete/break echo123 and or skype [if you can] from any other social media that you may be using, like facebook, google, hotmail and any other microsoft "live essentials" first, heck, even browsers can be sync-ed, then that link break you created may or may not actually work between WLM and skype. sync-ing can be a very intricate web.

I remember seeing how to find what sync connection is made to each contact in your WLM contacts while your signed-in, but I don't remember where I saw it It involves right clicking on each contact then checking the From column and that should tell you. It also involved reducing the number of descriptive columns to make it easier to see.

This is why you don't see echo123 when not signed-in and do when you are:
    • When you're not signed in with a Microsoft Account, the right-most button on the Home tab of the ribbon reads Sign in and the contacts list you see is the default list.
    • When you are signed in with a Microsoft Account, the right-most button on the Home tab of the ribbon reads something other than Sign in and the contacts list you see is the one that belongs to the account you're signed in with. The list synchronizes with the one at contacts.live.com. Any change you make to this list in Windows Live Mail will propagate to the online list and vice versa.
You'll see this in iFiredog's fourth post here: How to remove ECHO123 off my contacts list It is my understanding you can use WLM without signing-in, but you would in all probability have to rebuild the default contact list.

If you have the time read that thread, it may help, especially iFiredog's posts.

    [QUOTE=Anak[/QUOTE]

My main mail is Gmail. I use same username@gmail.com for my mail & Win. Live ID but they have a different password.
I sign in to WL Mail with the Live ID password.
My Gmail account uses Gmail password.
echo123 only appears in WL Mail contacts but not in Gmail contacts when accessed in my browser. Hope you understand so far.
The reason I prefer WL Mail is that its the same when accessed using either of my 2 computers, it is more user friendly with more features but mainly the calendar is displayed on the right of the page although I must access the calendar by clicking it at lower left side.
This is the only item I have that is synced.
I don't use any Social Media sites, i.e. Facebook or Twitter.

The reason my WL Mail is configured so, was so I could get reminders by Email. Now I am happy without them and don't like how Google words my reminders e.g.

I would prefer it to be Notification: Boiler service 1000hrs on Sat 4 Jun 2016 (George)

Windows live mail is being dropped by M$. They are even going to stop supporting it for outlook.com accounts. That may have already happened to you. They are making some changes and I bet that your problem is related to that. Windows Live Mail 2012 will not connect to Outlook.com
