Windows 7: Google auto sign-in

Google auto sign-in

W7, Google, Firefox.
This morning my p.c. automatically signed in to gmail, whereas I have always had to key in the first part of my email address followed by the password. I want to have to sign in every time.
Recent events are: yesterday I was telephoned by someone who purported to be a BT engineer who I dismissed and who then rang a second time to say that he was going to cut off our tel connection for a few weeks. He didn't and I reported this to Fleur.
Two days ago I paid for and downloaded a 3 device two-year subscription to Kaspersky. This will begin after the present cover has expired in a few days time. It seemed to be a lot of faff to a simple chap like me and there was a lot of ticking of strange phrases to be done - I might have inadvertently agreed to this 'straight-in' rather than 'sign-in' approach to my email address.
A few weeks ago I bought a Medion tablet and that, from the beginning, went straight in to my emails without my having to sign in.
How do I revert to having to sign in with address and password on both devices?
Thanks,
Ted

It depends what you are using on Android you sign in with Gmail as it's tied to Android with that you don't need to login to Gmail, Google drive as hour signed in. On a PC it can be the same if you sign in to Windows with a Gmail account or have Google drive running your logged in to ms and Google account

Thanks for the reply.
I feel sure that somewhere there is a box for me to tick to stop automatic opening of my gmails - I want to have to enter my password before I can read them.
There is lots of Google advice about this but where do I actually tick or untick?
I would expect it to be in Google Settings but I can't see it.

I spent a long time going round and round following Google's directions to disable auto log-in, but I couldn't find the box to tick.
To my embarrassment, it is plain enough on the initial screen which asks for your email then for your password. The meaning of 'Stay signed in' is unclear; it probably got ticked in the belief that it meant stay signed in until the pc is next switched off.
Anyway, you live and learn, possibly.

Google Android required the user to have a Gmail account.

But reading gmail messages is different.
Gmail app is part of Android apps and need not be online, except to read Gmail messages.

You need to have the Gmail app in order to access your gmail inbox, etc.
If you do not want to read /sync gmail message, there is the setting.

1. Open the Gmail app.
2. On top left there is 3 horizontal line, click on it and select "Setting"
3. Click on the gmail address xxxxx@gmail.com
4. Scroll down, there is Data usage: Sync Gmail - leave the box blank.

That all.
You must go to each individual devices, such as mobile handset and tablet, to do the same setting.
The Sync Gmail only apply on the handsets & tablet that you do the setting.

By default, it won't prompt you for password, as the Android device have your password.

To read your gmail messages, at the setting, (4) Sync Gmail, and immediately the messages will appear, with wifi or mobile data set ON.
Finished reading, (4) Sync Gmail and remove the checked mark, as the box is empty.

This is to sync Gmail, which is not sync Chrome, as it both are separate apps.
