Not really recommended for Chrome but you could try the forced uninstall option of Geek Uninstaller (portable)

Highlight Chrome in Geek Uninstaller list of programs then choose "Action > Force Removal" and once complete remove detected leftovers.

GeekUninstaller | GeekUninstaller

If it works - after a reboot check for these folders and manually delete if found:

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google
PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Google
PROGRAMFILES%\Google

Perhaps you and your administrator can look into this option:

To answer your question about registry editing. Sometimes, I am successful in doing what you'r thinking of doing -- removing all traces of "xyz" through-out the registry. After I have removed xyz usually by Revo Uninstaller or program uninstaller, I edit the registry and remove all traces of "xyz".
However, it is important! that you, like me, have already made full images of your OS partition and your data partition onto two reliable and trusted external media devices, such as usb ext HDs for example. Correct, do not make such full images onto a "backup-dedicated" partition residing on the same HD. Important because you just might, hours or days later, be reaching for your backups to do a full OS restore.

Downloaded geekuninstaller and tried it. It wasn't successful either. It looked like it was working but it didn't. Afterwards, Chrome was still showing up.

Well you didn't anser the question - what is the file path shown to the chrome executable in Chrome's shortcut target box?

You could try the zip file that was created here: Need help removing google chrome

I've attached it anyway: remove-chrome.zip

Extract the files to your desktop then right click the batch file and choose "run as administrator"

When finished double click the reg file.

Where exactly is it showing up?

Add/ Remove programs.
Desktop shortcut.
Start Menu Shortcut.
Taskbar shortcut.
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Google
PROGRAMFILES(X86)\Google
PROGRAMFILES\Google

Or somewhere else?

Is this a work computer? If so there could be stipulations on it that even a local administrator can't get around.

Post #1 says that it's not. It would be handy to know where Chrome actually installed to.

Sorry for the delay in responses. It is my wife's computer and she demanded I stop "playing" with it for awhile before "I make things worse." Yeah. The story of my life. But I will get back to it and find out where it was installed. I'm pretty sure it did go into the appdata path. As soon as she lets me back on (probably this weekend) I'll fill in some blanks for all of you.
