Hi,
Mostly irritating is the animated adds in your face all the time.
Switching accounts well new accounts security wise might be the second worst thing but I imaging switching outlook/ hotmail.com addresses is doable.

Gmail is a lot better zero adds and functions a heck of a lot faster seeing there is no animations going on
Large reading space opposed to limited outlook.com

Gmail also allows customization for desktop images you might like to use instead of a blinding white back ground in outlook.com.

I'm somewhat confused.

In 15 years I have had 2 ISP and both offered free email accounts.
So that is what I use.

Hotmail was replaced with Live. com way back when, and Live .com was replaced a year or two back with Outlook. Com

I understand that Hotmail and Live sites will eventually be closed, as even now the Outlook site handles all the past variations of Microsoft mail services as well as new users and those that decided to swap the old obsolescent addresses for the equivalent Outlook addresses.

I have many Live, (or Semi-Live - known by old contacts, but not actively used by me), Email Accounts, from many providers, and all are checked by my Main Gmail account, so I have one point of reference - I normally use the Gmail Web portal Though I do have both Thunderbird (preferred, as it allows me to use add-ons for specialist business related tasks (No. I don't spam ) or Outlook 2016 for when I have major management tasks to perform.

I also use a number of re-direction / process rules to organise my often in excess of 3500 eMails each month

Hi,
Not much of a chance of switching over older hotmail... email addresses to what ever new email address MS dreams up next
Site is a site login stays the same regardless of what is the newest name for it is or will be

Edit

It allows the use of @gmx.us for US users

I also have an Outlook.com address but tend to keep that for correspondence and other logins etc with Microsoft
what does GMX do

It's possible that someone will take over the service but the old adage of "hope for the best and plan for the worst" is a best choice in this situation
That would be my suggestion, as well.
There are numerous alternatives, including gmail for webmail and several free/paid email clients.

GMX is a free Email service and works in the same way as other services - It also provides calendering services and other information management facilities - Its all explained from the link I provided

Gmail fully supports a folder structure alternative that is based on labels, you simply apply the label you want to any mail received, (these can be automatically applied by the use of a rule or manually).

As the labels can be nested just like a normal folder structure it basically another name for a folder structure

The "new improved" Yahoo Mail isn't. In fact, it's vexing, mortifyingly slow, and no longer allows open folders while creating new messages so you can't copy and paste with both items open.
