    IE8 has become very slow

It is slow opening new but opening a new tab took 22 seconds
I deleted history, offline files etc. all of that. with zero days
    it still took that long
where as firefox which i use more takes ..less than a second. instantly opens

seems to have happened over the past day or 2

It's not bad working within a page that has opened, it is mainly just opening it and opening a new tab

any idea why this would happen?

Just use system restore and go back to the point before the problem began.

You might see if resetting Internet Explorer may be able to help. :)

    It works okay now
I never restored to an earlier point because I was thinking of reinstalling 7 anyway
It got much worse a few days later, taking about 45 sec to open and same for a new tab

Yesterday someone sent me a link via aim and it opened normally
I can't explain it but now IE opens just fine
it's fixed but seems to have done so miraculously
solution... ignore it for a week? have somebody send you a link through IM?

    Sqrach,

I'm happy to hear that it has seemed to sort itself out for you. :)

The first thing I would suggest is to remove add-ons, which can make Explorer run slowly, or not at all. This link does a great job walking you through it:

I also strongly recommend checking for updates, as many of these freezing problems have been corrected by using the most current version.

    Hope this helps:
