IE 64 bit works, 32 bit does not
Hi All,
First time poster. I have been stumped by this problem for months. Today I had some time so I went back at it and still without a solution ...
I am running Windows 7 64 bit, which was originally installed on a new system. I have had a consistant issue with IE 32bit which I have seen all over the newgroups/helpgroups, etc: that is, clicking on a link to open a new window or new tab results in that tab hanging at "connecting." The only way to make it work is to cut and paste the link to a new tab - in which case it works fine.
I have tried every "solution" I have seen on the internet including disabling all add-ons, running 32 bit in add-on-free mode, clearing caches, playing with security levels and trusted zones, registering program associations, etc. etc. etc. I have not been able to improve it one bit. One interesting note: today I figured out that if I manually run the 64 bit version of IE it DOES work properly without issue.
I am running Avira antivirus personal edition and windows firewall; disabling these does not restore the functionality.
I am at a loss. Any other ideas?
