I deleted all my email from my laptop days ago, today the same email is back in the inbox and can't be deleted. All I get is it is an unknown error and won't delete. Running 7-64. U would uninstall the program and reinstall except I don't want all the other Windows programs that come with mail.
I read all the answers given and they are all basically correct, as there are many ways to skin a cat.
In my opinion the obious answer was missed, you can get windows mail as a standalone. I know for a fact that you can, because, I did it.
Just go to the microsoft site, (they try to push everything), but if you look carefully, you can just check the ones that you want. Go back and take a look.

Use this link. When you click you will be given a choice of what you want.

I was running that download last night and see messenger, photo gallery and others when I canceled the install.

As I said I did it just a short while ago. This is taken right from the website:

    1. The installer will open. Select the programs you want to install*, and then click Next.

*Previously installed Windows Live programs will also be updated if you don't have the latest versions installed yet.
When you get to the open installer, look for a way to select. Its easy, I just do not remember the specifics.

Hey, Idea, Create a system restore point. If it does not wrok the way I know it will, you can restore.

OK, back running true. Uninstalled all Windows Live products and clean with CCleaner. Rebooted and downloaded Windows Mail and installed it only. Still had the same problem and what was weird, all the accounts reinstalled with this install. Deleted all accounts having problems and the deleted the folders in the user account, run CCleaner again. ebooted andd recreated the 2 accounts and tested . Sofar no problems, but have my Office 2007 disk at the ready and will use Outlook 2007 as I do on the desktop

Thanks for all the help and clues

When I installed Win 7, I wanted just the mail client, and I got it the way I explained. I am guessing, that many have done that but M$, wants us to use more of their crapware. I do not think you misread, but rather that M$, "accidentally" changed the download.

But in any event, I am glad that you have what you wanted. BTW, happy holidays.
