Firefox window flashes under these conditions:

    1) Aero turned on.

    2) web page is scrolled using the scroll wheel

SYMPTOM: a very brief total blanking of the firefox window--just the webpage area--not the tabs, menu, borders, etc.

If I use the scroll bar instead of the mouse, no problem. If I turn off aero, then I can use the mouse scroll wheel and no problem. Browse with IE--no problem either.

Something wacky going on with the mouse driver?

This issue has happened with several Nvidia drivers put out in 2009.

Anyone else having this trouble with Firefox and scrolling with mouse wheel, with Aero enabled? If so, what video card do you have? Mine is an Nvidia 6800.

i know it's a long shot but you could try turning smooth scrolling off.worth a shot anyway.

Thanks, that's worth a try. Unfortunately, today I can't troubleshoot the problem, because it went away this morning! (At least for the time being). Generally, I put my PC to sleep when not using it, but last night I shut if down. Today, the first thing after rebooting, I opened FF in Safe Mode and there was no flashing. I closed FF and reopened it in normal mode....still no flashing! I tried repeatedly on long web pages such as this site when viewing long threads. Try as I might, the flashing isn't happening. Crazy. I've seen it flash since I installed 7. IIRC, I turned on Smooth Scrolling in FF a few days ago, but the flashing has occurred with it on or off. Nevertheless, the next time it acts up, I'll toggle SS on and off and see what happens.

I've been running FF for quite a while with smooth scrolling OFF and have seen no flashing. Today I turned it on, and the flashing came back. Disabled it again, and no more flashing. Thanks for the tip--that seems to have been the culprit.
