Run Windows 3.1 in your browser.

As seen on CrunchGear, Michael Vincent has made an awesome website for those who want to kick it oldschool. Whether you're old enough to remember using it, or too young to know what it is, Windows 3.1 was, undeniably, the turning point for Microsoft's Windows OS. While it didn't offer much in terms of new functionality over its predecessor, Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1 was the first widely used version of Microsoft's world dominating OS.

That certainly brings back memories! Great find!

I had been trying to get 3.1 on a virtual machine but had a problem with the first of the 6 original 3 1/2" floppy disks binding up. Bought those retail a long, long time ago in a place far, far away at this point!

    Hi all

Why would you actually want to run it in a Browser - although it might be an academic exercise for running OS'es in browsers as we get nearer "The Cloud".

You can also run this stuff quite easily in a Virtual Machine - and Windows 3 is still downloadable from Technet for those who have a subscription.

Note you can set any "Floppy" device on a Virtual Machine to use a floppy image file.

When the VM asks for the next floppy in the install sequence just use the VM's menu to disconnect the ist floppy image and mount the next one.

    Cheers

I can't check out this site right now... does it actually allow you to "install" & run Win 3.1/16 bit applications on it? I have some ancient Win 3.1 image editing software that won't run in Windows 7 that I'd like to use again....
