orca browser crashed - too closely related to IE?

I use orca/avant browser now because of all the problems and security issues associated with IE and just had my first - browser is not responding tab recovered - crash. that happened alot with IE but I didnt expect it with a new browser...except now I find out that orca/avant is VERY closely related to IE in terms of system functions...so whats the point of using orca/avant...can anyone confirm this?

    Hi Genxie.

You have to draw a distinction between the two browsers you mentioned. Both Avant and Orca are developed by the same software team, headed by a Chinese programmer named Anderson Che.

Orca Browser is a web browser based on the Firefox (3) core with the same speed and features of Firefox in addition to a handful of extra features.

Avant Browser was largely inspired by Opera and wrapped the layout engine used by Internet Explorer.

No browser is impervious to security problems, although all the developers and programmers involved with the development of these browsers are obviously working continuously to reduce vulnerability of their products.

Ultimately the choice of a browser comes down to personal preferences coupled with a bit of common sense regarding, amongst other factors, security issues. Here is a link to a recent browser security test results summary for you to have a look at.

    Hope this helps.

I use orca because avant made me use UAC every time I opened it so there is something not right there. I switched from IE to well just simply another browser because I read so many articles about how people dont trust IE anymore because of all the hackers and spammers and maleware that have gotten to know IE so well and how that potentially makes it unsafe over the long haul. dont know if this is true but SO many people say the same thing and even the website majorgeeks.com which are pretty knowledgeable and helpful people.

Genxie, have a look at this article. Test Center: How secure is Internet Explorer? | Applications - InfoWorld

That should give you a good idea of the security aspects of all the major players in the browser game.
