Downloading in IE8 + Search into a New Tab

    Hello there,

I'm an Opera fan ( ) but now I start to discover those great features in IE8, and it seems I will change... I'm impressed about IE8... Definitely a big step in browsing life.

    But.

I have customized already for my "style" (accelerators, search, toolbars etc.), but I can't solve some little things.

When I start a new search on the search field, the result will be appear/open at the actual tab. Yeah, I can start with open a new tab before a new search but it would be better to open it automatically in a new. Is it possible?

    The other:
In Opera, there is a "Downloads Tab" page, when you click and start a download a new tab page opens with a list of the actual file downloads. It is really good option and missing very from IE. This old "pop-up" download window is annoying very.
Is there an addon or something to change this?

    Thanks for help.

    Hello zedman, welcome!

I'm not sure about the downloads page, but I know that opening the search results in a new tab is a feature of your search engine, not IE.

Not sure about any other search engines, but I know for Google, in the upper-right corner, there is a link Search Preferences. In the resulting page, you can specify how search results open up.

You can also have the results open up in a new tab by pressing Alt-Enter instead of just enter, when you type in the search box.

    Hope this helps,
    ~JK

    Aahh,, great! Alt+Enter is fine!
    Thanks!

About the download> I found Enterra Download manager addon, and I think it will be fine too.

I have an other question about accelerators.
How can I select a part of a text which is linked? I mean; when you move over a link on a page, the cursor turns to a "hand" and you can't able to select the text. (only in the case if you start to select from the beginning or the end of the link.)
