    IE7 or IE8 Pro

Hi can someone explain to me what IE7 Pro is? Is there also an IE8 Pro? Would the IE7 Pro be better than normal IE8? Thanks

IE7Pro is an addon to IE that gives you a lot of added functionality, scuh as ad blocking through filter lists, mouse gesture support, etc.

As far as I know (I hate internet acronyms such as AFAIK), there is no IE8Pro.

IE7Pro has evolved to support IE8 as well, though it originally started out as an effort to enable IE7 to match other browsers' capabilities.

It is a very worthwhile adition to IE7/8.

Basically this means you should use IE8 with the IE7 Pro Extension.

I really wish they'd just rename it to IE Pro.

I used it for a while. I'm guessing you already know this, but Opera browser | Faster & safer internet | Free download Opera is much better. I think IE7Pro worked with IE8. It was quite a while ago, though.

I use Opera because I like some of it's function. But calling it faster than IE8 is stretching it. IE8 is still my default because it gives me the least trouble (and I also tried FF, Safari, Chrome and a few others).

You're in good company, I hate them too! I also hate it when people scold users for typing in all caps. Their excuse, that's considered shouting. Who care's, I know I don't. I've never found the inventor of that emily post on Internet all caps shouting rule either, lol

I am always amazed and puzzled when alternative browser users just have to enter a thread for another opportunistic bash at IE (or MS) to plug (defend!) their alternatives when it has nothing to do with the topic or the OP's question, and adds no value, that I can see, to the discussion.

This thread is not about Opera. It is not even about Internet Explorer! It is about IE7Pro. Let's please stick to the topic.

That's not going to happen. There was a push to do that in the past, but someone already has the name, and domain. But more importantly, IE7Pro's extensive feature set (except for spell check) is less needed in IE8, and may signal the demise of any chance of future development. A look at all the spam on the IE7Pro Forum would suggest they have lost interest. In fact, according to this wiki page, all development has stopped.

I've been using IE7Pro for over 3 years, and when IE8 came out, that was the one plug-in I installed. However, I really only use it for one purpose - the real-time, in-line spell checker and have most other features disabled. The crash recovery feature used to work well with IE7, but I disable it on IE8 systems to avoid conflicts with IE8's own very capable crash recovery program.

Ummm, sorry, but no it wasn't. IE7Pro is over 3 years old. Most of IE7Pro's features were NOT included natively in other browsers. Some of the features were available as plug-ins and add-ons, other features were unique to IE7Pro, and others were just enhancements to existing features.

Let's make sure we understand IE7Pro is just an add-on feature set. It does not replace IE. My advice is to try it. If you don't like it, it does uninstall cleanly.

I don't have a problem with your post, whs. But FTR, I am not new, neither is the rule to keep threads on topic and avoid running them off on tangents for personal agendas.
