    it doesnt have a fault on the bottom left it says "waiting for http//www.halifax "
    can i check and unblock port 433

    Yes it has always worked on both machines in the house up until two weeks ago

    You can try, but I don't know what will happen. I don't use restore points personally. Can you get to ANY other secure site other than your banking site?

    in Internet Explorer: Tools \ options \ Advanced -- scroll down to "security". Check to make sure you're SSL 2.0 and 3.0 are checked. Please also disable your windows firewall for the sake of testing.

    ssl 2.0 wasnt checked i have checked it and turned the firewall off but no joy
