FireFox cache files & files w/o ext. use ME2 icon Hello,
I need to help. For whatever reason Fire Fox's cache files as well as files without an extension are now using Mass Effect 2 icons instead of their default icons. With FF's cache icons "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is greyed out. And for the files without an extension I have no idea how to change that. Can someone help me get these files to show their default icons?
Side note:
I understand that if a file needs to be associated with the correct extension can be changed by adding the correct .ext however. For those files that don't have any extensions (IE: Fire Fox cache files) there is no extension for them and they default to Mass Effect 2 icons. I want this changed back to it's default icon.

First, let me say that I'm no Firefox expert, I only use it as a backup, but I don't recall ever seeing any files without extensions...but then I have my system set to show all extensions, even if they are known, in Folder Options>View. Perhaps if you made this setting, you could reset the associations as needed. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Hello ECH,
Double check to make sure that you have all file extensions set to display in Folder Options, then post back what file extensions these are for. I'll see if I can make you a reg file to restore their default associations with. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

Yes, as far as I know I have:
-Show hidden files and folders and drives
-Hide extensions for known files types are unchecked
Ok, I forgot to look at the tab for "Type" it does read File as that "type" for FF cache files.
Another note: when I click on FF's cache file (any cache file) it auto starts Mass Effect 2. LOL
That's a first... | My System Specs | | |

Ok, I forgot to look at the tab for "Type" it does read File as that "type" for FF cache files. As far as you know? Either they are set or they aren't. You said that you have "Show hidden files and folder and drives" unchecked. For this purpose, it should be checked. You lost me on this "tab for type", please clarify, I don't find that tab.
EDIT: Brink's recommendation might be the fastest and easiest solution. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Sure no problem: I have explorer set to details which provides columns to the right which shows date, type, size, etc. This is what I was referring to when I said that the "Type" indicated File when in FF's cache subfolder.
---------
On another note I've used Disk Cleanup to remove it's defaults file selections and FF's cache no longer starts ME2. Although the icon still remains. Thanks for the info. | My System Specs | | |

Update I exited out of Explorer and restarted Explorer and the ME2 icon is now removed from FF's cache files. It looks like using Disk Cleanup did the trick.
