This kind of gave me an excuse to get off of Gmail. Apart from the massive amount of spam I get in my Gmail account, I've also been hearing bad things about the privacy of Gmail (I just hope Google Chrome doesn't have the same issues. Does anyone know if it does?). Therefore, I decided to place some trust in Microsoft and created a Hotmail account.
    Even Google Chrome is insecure.

Thanks...I officially do not trust Google anymore.

I hope this does wake people up some.

Google has actually been "evil" for several years now. Thier original slogan "Do no evil" which the CEO recently admitted was admitted was just a marketing slogan to get the company off the ground worked SO well that 99% of the population believed it. He went on to say that if you are concerned about provacy at all then stay off the net. Well sure you should think like that, but is that the kind of thing you want to hear from the guy in charge of Google???

Although other mail services andother web apps all spy on you to a degree, Google's entire existance is about collecting as much information about you as possible and reselling it. Things like G-Mail, Chrome and the Google Desktop are gold mining operations for them.

It's fine, I can do without those things if I care. But worse is when Google comes driving down your street taking pictures of you and your proerty and then having them monitor your power consumption with electronic power meters all without your consent. It's becoming impossible to "opt out" of being spied on by Google.

Google IS big brother. It was postulated that it would be the government in a certain famous book, but why not let the private sector become BB instead?

    Don't forget this little add-on,

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/52498#

Can block Google Analytics and a few other of their ad-based annoyances.

    LONG ???

    THANKS for the information.

about GMX: have you got any "offers" / advertising emails (from GMX) ?

Dinesh: "There is really no need to worry as you can completely disable Buzz..."

    not about Buzz, thatīs correct.
i disabled Buzz yesterday on almost all my accounts, so Buzz is not any problem anymore.
but the BIG question is: can Google be trusted ?
after doing such an insane thing with Buzz, what will they do next time ?
thatsīwhy i started looking for an alternative.
unfortunately, livemail is not an option as they donīt support imap.

btw. during a search on the net iīve seen some post saying that imap can be used with yahoo-accounts.
iīve tried several different setting, but got errrormessages everytime, does anyone know if itīs posssible ?

Not sure what you mean exactly about "offers" / advertising emails but the only mail I get from GMX is that which I am subscribed to, basically a news feed for new features, which is one every month or so and could be stopped whenever I wish.

If you mean actual advertising materials then just go to the site Free Webmail and E-Mail by GMX | Sign Up Now! and you should find a full description of the services and such
