Internet Browsers "Not Responding"

Ever since I installed the W7 OS (64 bit) about 2 weeks ago I've been having problems while browsing the internet. If I try to watch a video, log in to my school's library site, or sometimes just chat with people via Facebook, I'm almost guaranteed to get the "Not Responding" message, at which point I have to close the browser, open another one, and start over again in the hopes that the next attempt will be more successful. I get this response when using Firefox, I.E., and Chrome. If there's anyone out there who knows of an easy fix please let me know. I'm not a huge computer guy so layman's terms would be much appreciated! Thanks

Hello smj451, welcome to Seven Forums!

Is this something that has been going on for a while or has it just started?

It just started happening about 2 weeks ago when I upgraded to Windows 7. I had been using Vista previously and never experienced this problem.

So it was an upgrade install and not a clean install, you upgraded over Vista?

Possibly fixed.

Okay, so last night I downloaded CC Cleaner, and apparently when I upgraded from Vista to 7, something strange happened with the registry, the java wasn't upgraded correctly and the old one was still hiding on my computer somewhere. I just ran CC Cleaner and got rid of the old versions of Java (and shockwave and flash for good measure) and re-installed the latest versions. So far, I haven't had any of the problems that I had been having chatting, watching videos or listening to audio files.
