IE Cache Files-Revisited

Ok first a quick question.
Does a 'meg' = 1,000,000.

If not just go ahead and delete this post :(

I've set my cache to 8 "Megs?"...whatever that means.
Yet when i browse Temporary Internet Files using this path

c:\Users\Cathy\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Low\Content.IE5\

it seems to have stored WAY more than that.

Why? Huh? What's going on here?

Well technically 1 meg is 1,048,576 :)

Does that folder with 17 meg in it contain one huge file?

It can be hard to manage caches with such tiny sizes if the file sizes are greater than the cache size. Everything goes into the cache at first, it may get culled later down to 8 megs...

You are close: a megabyte is actually 1048576 bytes. Hard drive manufacturer's like to define a megabyte as 1,000,000 bytes, just to make their drives look bigger.

Culling! What a word!
But YES!

I went back to that folder to check the 'hugeness of files?' factor and the
four folders had been CULLED and or winnowed to under 8 megs in the interim.

So the app/IE8 prolly said "sheesh that video is BIG, i'll store it temporarily and
then cull it a bit later", and that's just what it did. Ballooned, then snapped back.

The video was this...YouTube - 18th Floor Balcony/Blue October.
This bridesmaid has to find songs for the wedding reception. Lucky me :(
