My firefox is 3.6 and checked the updates and it says there are no updates at this time. Is this a beta?

Based on the version number, its probably just an alpha.

3.7a2. a2 stands for Alpha 2, very early development stages of it. Full of bugs no doubt.

not all alphas are buggy, the earlier alpha builds of firefox including the 64bit version were incredibly fast for their time, but i must say Google Chrome is pulling me away from IE8. Im loving how each tab is its own process, helps with speed, and the themes are great too, however "some" not all sites support it...... try it...
