Star on Google Search Results

I guess I haven't been paying much attention but to the best of my knowledge, I don't remember seeing these stars next to Google Search Results. What are they for? I've searched Google for it but my results point to something Google that I don't use

Anyone know how to get rid of the Google stars? It's affecting my middle clicking of search results which should open a selected result in a new tab. Some results will open in a new tab but most do not. At least that's what I'm thinking is the problem. It's the only thing that has changed recently.

Guess I'll never see them then as I don't have and don't plan on having a Google account,

Do I have to be signed in to star a result?

Yes. To see the changes you've made to a given search result the next time you do that search, you must be signed in to your Google Account. If you aren't signed in, you'll simply see standard, unmodified Google Web Search results.

Yea, I'm not seeing them anymore either, lol. I'm done with Google and will now use Clusty as my search. I especially like the link previews.
