    Downloads get extra extension

Yesterday I downloaded some registry settings, .REG files. Before I was able to use them I first had to rename them from .REG.TXT back to .REG. I downloaded them using Firefox and in the download dialog I changed "txt file" into "all files", the file name retrieved from the website has the .reg extension without .txt. I've never seen this before, I've been working with Firefox for years and with Windows 7 for weeks so I guess W7 is the culprit.

Try removing the .txt part of the filename. After all .reg files are just text files.

Not at all, Firefox is doing it on its own depending on where you download said "reg" files from. Downloading "reg" files here does not append "txt" to them.

Is it just for .reg files? What you could try is associate .reg files with regedit and see if it pick sit up then?
