Outlook 2007 - URL links not working

I installed the security update for IE, KB980182. After the reboot, I went to a SevenForums email notification and clicked on the URL link. I got an error message that Outlook failed to send the message. I should have snipped that error box; but I did not. I tried several others with the same result. I closed Outlook and reopened it - same result.

I uninstalled the update, rebooted and all is working well. Has anyone else experienced this? Was there a forum server problem? This happened about 35 minutes ago.

All I can say is that KB980182 was my last update for Office 2007 and don't have the same issue as you. I have no idea why it is happening. Maybe someone will pop in and have a solution.

I just Googled The update and it seems many people have similiar problems plus a few more weird things happening.

What security/Virus program you have running?

Iggy, I run Avast and Comodo. The only thing changed on my system was that update and when I uninstalled it, everything was back to normal.

MS seems to have released a lot of buggy updates recently including this one. The general solution seems to be uninstalling, then downloading the standalone installer package, then manually installing the package.

I will try that. And you are right, this is the second buggy update I have encountered. I'm not overly concerned with this one as I rarely use IE. But now and then I have guests that do use IE.

    Hello,

Have you recently installed, uninstalled, or updated Chrome?

No, I do not use Chrome; but that is interesting. You have given me an idea, though. Because IE is not my default browser, maybe this update changed some registry settings and that lead to the problem. I will play with this.
