Windows 7: Can't delete some email addresses

Can't delete some email addresses

I can delete any entry in "Contacts" but when sending a new email and clicking "to" to bring up a list of possible recipients (Contacts plus others) I can't delete the ones I don't want. Edit does not allow deletion. Right click, or delete button don't work either.
There must be a way - mustn't there?

I use Internet Explorer and Windows Live Mail. Does this help?

Hallo gepy7, If you back up your Registry (just to be safe). Then open RegEdit & navigate to;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Recently Used Addresses

Select Recently Used Addresses, in the right hand pane delete everything Except the (Default) key

Close RegEdit & Restart your computer, i hope this is of some help.

(If you do not understand my instructions then it is probably best left alone, i am going on the assumption that you are versed in Registry editing.)

Edit: This will clear all auto complete email addresses so you can start fresh.

If you enable the Administrator account on your computer and log in using that you should be able to navigate to the contacts folder and manually delete any you don't want.

Start > "cmd" > Right Click cmd.exe > Run as Admin...
Enter line: net user administrator /active:yes
Exit Cmd.exe
Log Off
Log In w/ Administrator
Delete Contacts
Log Off
Log in w/ Normal Account
Open another administrative cmd.exe
Enter line: net user administrator /active:no
Exit cmd.exe

I don't want to delete the auto-entry addresses, just the odd one or two from way back (probably transferred in when I did XP to Vista and now Vista to Windows 7. I can delete from the "Contacts" list but not from the list which appears when I Click "To: on a new email. The list which comes up is the "contacts" list PLUS several other very old addresses which are the ones I want to get rid of.
Mitchell64 - I don't want to interfere with any "recently used addresses" just the 4/5 year old ones which seem to have been retained from the past but have not been added to "Contacts" where I could delete them.
If it is too difficult I'll just live with the untidiness.

Yes the fix i gave you was just for clearing the auto complete history (as you type suggesting the address for you)
I think i have the gist of what you mean now, the "Select Recipients Box" when you select the "To" button even though you have deleted them from your Contacts Folder.
I use Windows Mail that i copied over from my Vista laptop to my Seven laptop, so i am unfamiliar with Windows Live Mail.
The only thing i can think of is does Windows Live Mail keep a copy of your Contacts on your Online account??
