IE8 Is Outrunning Chrome, Firefox, and Opera

Quote:
In the browser race, Internet Explorer 8 is outrunning its rivals, without breaking a sweat. Its always interesting to insist on certain statistics in order to get a deeper perspective, and browser-market data certainly offers the chance for insights beyond an initial interpretation. Earlier this month, Internet metrics company Net Applications released its monthly overview of the browsers evolution in terms of usage share, harvesting and compiling info from approximately 160 million visitors per month.

Internet Explorer 8 continues to be the most used browser worldwide, a position it grabbed in January 2010, and that it is unlikely to lose anytime soon. IE8 currently accounts for 24.66% of the browser market, benefitting from a growth rate of no less than 1.08% in April 2010. At the start of this year, IE8 dethroned IE6, to grab the no.1 spot with a share of 22.37%, at that time, as opposed to IE6s 20.00%. Still, Microsoft will need some fresh browser blood (Im thinking IE9) to turn things around as far as the overall browser market is concerned, as the usage share of all IE versions continues to decrease.

Of course IE is the most used browser. Most people don't even know what a browser is and only know that "the blue e" gets them on the internet.

I agree the masses are very ignorant of other browsers available.

things are better now in Europe since Microsoft have to give a choice of browsers now when you first install operating system so that should open up the eyes of inexperienced pc users

That's not necessarily such a good thing. Safari for Windows is pretty bad yet it's an option on the browser ballot.

People are also forgetting that back when it was IE4 vs NS4, IE4 was a much better browser, and people were willingly choosing it. The fact that it came with Windows 98 just made it take over faster as there was no reason to switch over to Netscape, and most people who did would invariably switch back.

There really isn't any need for more than 1 webkit browser. Chrome for Webkit, Opera for Presto, Firefox for Gecko - that's all the options necessary for the ballot.

Even though it is true that the overall internet explorer usage dropped, you must note that internet explorer version 8 has gained the most market share. This is a good thing for everybody. People are choosing alternate browsers instead of the dated internet explorer 6, so companies and home users are more secure. Also, it means that a good deal of people are choosing to upgrade to internet explorer 8, good for microsoft.

I'm glad that people are updating their browser and all, but there are much better alternatives out there at the time. I mean, people are just so ignorant about computers and the software out there, it's not even funny. I know a guy who didn't even know what Windows Update is. That's probably the case for more than half the people in the world.

Yeah, that is really an issue now. I have several friends who completely do not update anything and simply use what was provided by the oem. They don't have interest in the technology. All they care is that it is working and that they can get on facebook and such. They might see the windows update dialogue but they would never care to even click it to actually see what it is.

This is sadly true. Most people think their "home page" is their "browser"

i don't know how many times I have asked someone with common sense what their browser was and they replied...."MSN" or "Google" (the home page they don't know how to set in IE)

Sickening.....I don't understand how one could go through life not even wanting to learn.
