Am surprised no one realized it the other day.

Wasn't many changes from the last 5.x.xxx.x build.

Yeah, I was hoping for a few more changes, but it's a milestone nonetheless.

I suppose. More features should be showing up soon; if you follow the nightly builds you are bound to see them sooner rather than later.

Since you guys are into it(I'm running this build btw) maybe you can tell me if there's more than a semantic difference between "plugin" and "extension" ?? And what the hell is a google Gear?

I switched from SRWare Iron to the real thing since too many 3rd party utilities couldn't find the stuff they needed to work with Iron.

A plugin is a way for the browser to access a native application on the client machine to achieve functionality that can't be done with web technologies. Examples of plugins are Flash, QuickTime, Java, and Silverlight.

An extension (for Chrome) is written in Javascript/CSS/HTML. Extensions cannot access resources outside the browser and typically connect to other websites to provide information. Examples of extensions are Web of Trust, Google Mail notifier, Facebook notifier, RSS subscription button, etc.

Google Gears is a plugin that is slowly being phased out by HTML5. They both offer threading for parallel execution of javascript, local/offline caches and databases, and geolocation among other things.

Thanks for the info. I found some stuff about the various doodads like Gears, but not put as succinctly as your post. I appreciate it.

Everyone will want the Firefox extension they've been using so eventually it will take a minute to load if the disk is busy.

But it should have SyncPlaces instead of using 2. Right now I have to use LastPass and XMarks to get the same results. Plus I have to use an online account instead of my own ftp site. But speed heals all wounds.
