most visited sites on new tab

hi there i hope someone can help me.

when i opened a new tab in my browser it used to have icons of my most visted sites, which was quite convenient to just click on. But for some or other reason it is no longer the case it only gives me this page now res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm.

please can someone help me, i've searched on forums but haven't been able to find anything.
